Quote from Nature Magazine: On the Caribbean Island of St. Kitts, some vervet monkeys have developed an taste for tropical drinks. About one monkey in seven here prefers a spiked drink to pure fruit juice. Some researchers speculate that a taste for alcohol may give monkeys a survival advantage. The alcohol in slightly fermented fruit kills off disease organisms.
